When the finl exam of the HSC is finally over, there will be few people happier than me…

I like to think that i am a pretty intelligent guy, but i also procrastinate alot. Not just that, but there are a million other things i would be rather doing than my assignments, and you are only young once so make the most of it while you can.

Im finishing up year 12 this year, just a couple more weeks and i will be free to an extent, but first i have to face the obstacles directly infront of me: TRIALS. As a result of my mentality when it comes to school work, i am always leaving assignments till the last possible minute. I dont think there has been one assignment this year that i havent done earlier than the morning it was due, yet i have never gotten zero for any task.

I have it down to a science: I would go to sleep the night before it was due, and wake up around 1am the next day. Often i do not even go to sleep as i need more time to complete the longer ones. From that moment onwards i am in a hurried frenzy, attempting to finish the assignment before i have to leave to go to school. Now, in doing this, when i arrive to school, i am much like a zombie, but i smell better (at least i think so). The funny part is that i still beat most people marks-wise.

Sleep deprivation has been used as a method of torture for years, so you can imagine the sort of emotions i have been through. I often ask myself “What the fu** am i doing? It’s 3am and i am doing some piece of sh** assignemnt when i could be sleeping. Why?” Frustration turns to anger, then to doubt, then fear, and eventually despair.

The answer to that question of why, is that even though i can be lazy, when i start something, i finish it. I give any task i begin absoultely everything i’ve got, be it playing a sport or writing an essay, i never say die. The hard part is starting. So naturally, 2 weeks ago when trials came around the corner and i was totally unprepared, i decided to do as much as i could in the limited time i had left. This required something that i rarely attempted, not just one night without sleep, but several, all in a row.

Naturally, i couldnt do this all by myself, so i turned elsewhere. Energy drinks proved to be effective, but at the rate i drank them, they were too expensive, so a friend suggested coffee. Now, i hate coffee, especially the taste, but i regularly have at least one triple-shot cup of coffee each day as an energy booster. It is now one week and a half into the trials, and i only have 2 exams left. I have had on average 2-3hours of sleep each day. I have had several close calls when mixing coffee and enegy drinks and have experienced heart/chest pains from consuming too much caffeine and placing too much stress on my heart.

Im actually meant to be studying for a physics exam right now, so imma finish up here now, but all i am trying to say to everyone is dont leave things till late if you can avoid it, and give everything in life everything you’ve got, and you will live with no regrets.
